Welcome back, Orchard Knob Lions!
First Day of School
We are excited to welcome our students and families back to Orchard Knob Elementary for the first day of a new school year. Our teachers and staff are ready for a year filled with learning, growth, belonging, and opportunity.
The school day begins promptly at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM. The building will open at 7:30 AM for students who will be eating breakfast.
Preparing for a Successful First Day
A smooth first day begins with a little preparation. Families can help students feel confident and ready by reviewing the information below before arriving at school.
Before Coming to School
- Make sure your child knows how they will travel to and from school.
- Review your child’s dismissal plan and make sure the school has current transportation information.
- Label backpacks, lunch boxes, jackets, and other personal items with your child’s name.
- Make sure your child is dressed according to the OKE student dress code.
- Help your child arrive on time and ready to begin learning at 8:00 AM.
What Students Should Bring
- A backpack labeled with the student’s first and last name
- Any requested school supplies that are ready to bring
- A reusable water bottle, if desired
- Any important forms or documents requested by the school
- A positive attitude and readiness for a great school year
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
The first few days of school may take a little longer as students, families, and staff settle into arrival and dismissal routines. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to keep all students safe.
Morning Arrival
- Follow all posted traffic directions and staff instructions.
- Have students ready to exit the vehicle when reaching the designated drop-off area.
- Do not leave students at school before the building opens at 7:30 AM.
- Encourage students to enter independently and follow staff directions.
Afternoon Dismissal
- School dismisses at 3:00 PM.
- Follow the dismissal procedure assigned to your child.
- Keep transportation plans consistent whenever possible.
- Contact the school as early as possible when a transportation change is necessary.
Start the Year with ROAR
At Orchard Knob Elementary, students are expected to demonstrate ROAR throughout the school day. Families can help by reviewing these expectations with their children before the first day.
